CLASS DESCRIPTION

Boulder Performing Arts Summer Camps are Monday - Friday, 9AM - 3PM. Scenes and Songs from The Greatest Showman - In our advanced camps, students will have the experience of auditioning for lead roles (if that character is in high demand) and playing roles that have more responsibility. While auditions will take place for lead roles, if you are the only person wanting to play a character, that role is yours! Even though we hold auditions our first day for leads, everyone will get a part that we will tailor to suit their skill level. All students will have the opportunity to perform songs from the show as well as perform a revised story line for our short turnaround. We end our week with a free performance around pickup time (between 2:30pm - 3:30pm) on the big stage. Summer camps are focused on fun, creativity, singing, dancing, and acting. Starting on Monday we meet our kids and learn about their skill levels. We play acting games to help our kids get comfortable and aquatinted with the other students. We talk about our weekly show theme and start to figure out the most important parts of the shows with the students. After writing their scripts (to help them learn their lines) we start putting our show together with songs and dances. There is an emphasis on choreography, staging, and singing technique. Simple costumes will be provided. All students will need to pack a water bottle, morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. During our lunch/break time our activity depends on the students energy. We will either watch a G-PG rated movie (usually the one the camp is focused on), draw, play games, or go on a walk outside. Our classrooms have A/C and our students can get a little chilly by the end of the day, please wear/pack light layers! The Greatest Showman tells the story of P.T. Barnum , a visionary from poverty who creates the "greatest show on Earth" by bringing together unique performers, but faces conflict when fame goes to his head, alienating his family and troupe, only to learn that true success lies in his relationships and accepting himself. The plot follows his rise from a poor clerk to a celebrated showman, his ambition to gain acceptance from high society, his tour with opera singer Jenny Lind, and his eventual reconciliation with his family and performers after losing everything.
